As a collaboration in procurement with Mara+Natha Architecture ltd., the design process with the client focused on the creation of a new addition to the Funeral Grounds which could act as a Cremation and Gathering Space.
The design process for the Heritage Gardens Crematorium was centered around solemnity and respect. The project expresses the clients’ novel approach to funerary services, while being empathetic for the process and rituals of letting go of loved ones.
The site inspired the form of the building, arranging itself around two existing gardens and adding one to ensure that from each space each ritual spaces had access and view to the exterior.
Flexibility was key for the client and program, so the heart of the building became the Hall and Chapel spaces.
