This social housing project, in collaboration with Mara + Natha Architecture Ltd., was focused on efficiency of build, and quality in the communal and amenity spaces on site.
The design was oriented to the view of the Saskatchewan River. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic were separated on-site and the orientation of outdoor spaces were oriented to be best connected to the riverside pathway, protected from surface parking. The units were given generous balcony spaces and large units characteristic of Alberta housing.
3. Slice Facade
4. Infill Circulation
5. Articulate Massing
6. Gabled Forms
The top level of the building is clad in the same material as the infill, reducing visual scale.
The top level is split into two parallel gabled volumes that navigate the turning geometry.
2. Break and Rotate
1. Massing
A portion of it rotated to roadway angle to call forward the entrance.
Sited towards the back of the site parallel to the Saskatchewan River.
Gaps in the massing are 'infilled' with a different material to highlight the different volumes.
The mass is then sliced in half along the East-West axis to break up the massing.
